When I try to save a picture, I get a message that my file size is too large.

• If you are saving the picture to use in another program, try using a file format that supports compression. About reducing file size
  
  
• If you are saving the picture in Microsoft PhotoDraw format (MIX), you can change the level of compression. Change default compression level

Note If you want to move, edit or format individual objects in your picture, you need to save the picture in PhotoDraw format (MIX). If you save a picture in another file format, it's a good idea to keep an editable master version in PhotoDraw format.
